Born and raised in Greensboro, NC, Elissa Paula resides in Boone, NC, working towards her BFA in Studio Art at Appalachian State University. Elissa primarily works within the medium of painting, but her passions lie in learning new methods of making and expanding herself to an interdisciplinary artist. Artist Statement
My work is a vessel of appreciation of the feminine experience. It serves as a reclamation of self-identity and confronts what is deemed as the “ideal”. Through subject matter and material, my work navigates the complexities of self-image and mental health. I am interested in showing reality and emphasizing its quality through mixed media and texture. Investigating vulnerability is a source of inspiration in my work, creating a cathartic experience during the art process.
